We would like to remind employers that they are expected to pay for end point assessment (EPA) resits that an apprentice will need if they do not pass their first EPA. The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) make it quite clear that the employer is mainly responsible for the training of their apprentice, and they should support their apprentices until they complete their apprenticeship programme, which includes covering the cost of any required resits. We should also add that resit costs are not determined by Cheynes Training; they are set by the ESFA.
The vast majority of apprentices on the Cheynes Training programme successfully complete EPA on their first attempt. Unfortunately, in a small number of cases, an apprentice needs to resit part of their EPA. If this happens, the employer will be charged a fee by Cheynes Training before the resit can take place. Importantly, Cheynes Training can only register an apprentice for EPA if we have proof that the employer has paid the resit fee. If an employer does not pay the invoice, the apprentice will not be able to re-sit their EPA and will not complete their qualification.
