Richard John Junior Stylist of the Year
Richard John Hair and Beauty have been running their annual junior stylist of the year competition for over 30 years. This friendly fun event gives all the Apprentices the opportunity to develop their creativity and produce a ‘Total look’ for the judges.
This year it was a huge event and congratulations to everyone that took part! There was some excellent work!
Extra well done to Emma, a 2nd year apprentice who won, and Amelia, a 1st year apprentice who came 2nd and Kayleigh another 1st year who came 3rd.
When we asked Emma why she chose the style she did this was her response “The inspiration of my mermaid theme was based on both the colour of the year, and the background of my model. Maddison has long full virgin hair and it felt symbolic to the untouched and pure nature of mermaids, e.g. Ariel. Drawing on this theme allowed me to bring in various textures from creatures and plants from the sea; but also, provided an array of colours and indirect associations. I chose the basket weave as I felt it visually referenced the nets used in mass-fishing.
The theme of the sea was based on the colour of the year, which was coral. This allowed me to explore the textures and colours I could apply to Maddison’s virgin hair. Using the sea as the theme informed my decision to create a basket weave as this design can be found on various shells, but also on fishing materials.”
Emma’s work was outstanding and she is a true inspiration to others coming to the end of their qualification. All the team at Richard John are extremely proud of not only Emma but everyone that took part.
