Justine’s Story

Justine Othen is one of the main educators at Richard John, based in Worthing, East Sussex.

For the last couple of years Justine has been volunteering hair services to her local hospice, St Barnabas. The academy have also made this hospice their chosen charity where they have supported them with raffle prizes and donations.

St Barnabas House provides specialist palliative care to adults with life-limiting illnesses, both within the hospice and in the comfort of patients’ homes across West Sussex, at the hospice patients and families are never charged for the care they receive from a team of medical professionals that work there.

Justine now takes a group of her apprentices there twice a year to blow dry patients hair, Justine said “sometimes a wash and blow dry cheers the patient up so much!” Justine and her team attend an event called ‘Me Time Monday’ where she supplies a hair and beauty team for patients and their careers.

Not only do the patients benefit from the services, it is also enriching for the apprentices.
