A minimum of 50 hours Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is required each year, of which 30 hours must be applied practical skills – this translates into ‘hands-on’ practice or development work in a commercial environment. The CPD year continues to run from 1st September to 31st August the following year. CPD must be demonstrated through a personal development plan (PDP) or as a reflective diary. Responsibility for CPD is with the individual, not with the Centre they work for.
A total of twenty hours of CPD could be from a range of other activities such as
- Standardisation meetings
- Updating knowledge or skills through the internet, television and other media Industrial updating through visits, placements, secondments or shadowing
- Attending briefings by awarding bodies and colleagues
