Greetings and welcome to Cheynes Training Online Equality and Diversity (E&D) Study Guide.

Our aim is for you to improve your knowledge and understanding about Equality and Diversity by going through the interactive tutorials and printable worksheets within this E&D module.

This learning programme is designed for people who are studying for an Apprenticeship or Advance Apprenticeship in hairdressing and their teachers, trainers and assessors.

Working your way through the learning is simple and straightforward - there are instructions at every page to let you know how to move forward.

If you need some help to make the web or your computer easier to use such as make the text bigger, magnify the screen, make your mouse easier to use or even would like to make your computer speak text aloud, then please have a look at this website created and updated regularly by the BBC

By the end of this training you will have worked through the eight sessions of the E&D Unit:

  1. What do we mean by equality and diversity?
  2. Why is equality and diversity important?
  3. Your responsibilities and your employer's responsibilities
  4. What gets in the way of treating people fairly?
  5. Challenging unacceptable behaviour
  6. How to encourage respect for diversity?
  7. Practical tips for promoting diversity
  8. How diverse is your community?

Remember throughout to give yourself a pat on the back for participating and build in time to relax during studying.

How to use the E&D Online Study Guide

The information in this Online Study Guide is broken down into bite size learning. The eight sessions (seen on the right hand side of the screen) make up the E&D unit and will help you have fun whilst learning about Equality and Diversity in your workplace.

Each session has an introduction that tells you what will be covered and the learning outcomes you should achieve. There is also writing activities and interactive learning with instructions at every stage.

You will be able to click on the navigation button at bottom of each session to move to next page, previous page and click to start and end session. You will also be able to click on a link to return to this E&D Home Page. On the right hand side of this E&D Home Page you can select one of the eight sessions within this Unit.

You can go to each session in turn and will come across a series of symbols as you go along. Here's what they mean:

Shaking Hands represents E&D Visa At the end of each session remember to get your E&D Visa signed by your supervisor.

To complete the E&D unit you will have to study each of the eight sessions in this E&D Online Study Guide and complete the activities.

You will then need to obtain a signed E&D Visa.

Your Head of Centre will have a set of questions and answers to quickly check your competency prior to signing. You will not be asked anything that is not included in this E&D Online Study Guide.

The aim of this E&D Visa is to guide you through E&D and ensure that as you gather knowledge in each key area it is recorded and logged correctly. For this reason you will find it helpful to print off a copy of the E&D Visa before you start the module and each section that you complete may then be signed off on the E&D Visa by your Head of Centre.

The great thing about this E&D Personal Study Guide is that you can choose when and what you want to learn, and at what pace.

Don't be scared of the training material, if you miss a bit of information just go back to the session you want. You can leave at any time by closing your website browser.

If you get stuck or your want to ask a question, send us an email at enquiries@cheynestraining.com and we will get back to you personally within 48 hours.

The only other equipment you'll need is a notepad and pen or pencil.

Remember that seeking advice and support to help solve queries or problems is a form of strength and professionalism.

We hope that you enjoy the course and we’ve included an evaluation form at the end so that you can tell us how you got on.
