NVQ Level One - aimed at young people still at school
Cheynes Training has a considerable reputation for introducing new training ideas to the hairdressing industry. Our NVQ Level One is an example of our approach to the vital area of forging links between schools and employers. The Level One programme is currently operating in schools throughout Britain who have agreed to release young people to our salons for a minimum of one day each week over an entire term in order to train and be assessed to NVQ Level One standards during school time.
The benefits of Level One are tremendous. For the student, it is a perfect opportunity to try out a wide range of tasks within hairdressing. Each young person will be specially trained and assessed in a real, live work situation, something that is not always possible with other forms of work experience. On completion, successful Candidates will gain a National Vocational Qualification to show for their efforts, something that will impress any potential employer when they leave school, and a virtual guarantee of a job in hairdressing should they decide to follow that career choice.
The school can provide pupils with a unique new service and, at the same time, build links with local employers. Because our NVQ Level One is seen as a model for other companies and other industries to follow, schools are quick to publicise the fact that they can offer this service. From the salon's point of view, Level One provides an opportunity to recruit high quality young people and to train them in essential areas prior to them joining the organisation when they eventually leave school.
NVQ Level Two - aimed at school leavers
NVQ Level Two is a work-based foundation training programme which operates throughout the United Kingdom. NVQ Level Two is the minimum level all young people entering hairdressing need to achieve. The main aim of NVQ Level Two is to provide a total foundation training programme which will help young people to become high quality hair designers in the shortest possible time and provide these young people with a recognised qualification gained entirely in the salon.
Although fully incorporating the NVQ Level Two in Hairdressing, the Cheynes Training approach delivers a great deal more training content than other similar training programmes. The ‘extra' elements are geared specifically to the needs of top salons hence its popularity. These extra skills are designed to prepare young people for the day they become a hair designer and lead to the award on not one, but two national vocational qualifications, NVQ Level Two in Hairdressing and NVQ Level Two in Barbering!
NVQ Level Three - aimed at young hairdressers
NVQ Level Three is a highly flexible system of learning which operates in top salons throughout in the UK. The Cheynes Training approach allows candidates to study for the NVQ Level Three in hairdressing, how, when and where they choose. The concept is often called ‘Distance Learning’, we prefer to call it personal study. Candidates work from a set of Personal Study Guides. These are special booklets that have been created to help the Candidate to study under the guidance of a tutor appointed by the salon. The order of study and the final choice of subjects is made by the Candidate.
